MIND THE GAP
Semester 2, 2015

Location : Australia

The competition brief was to liberate six selected items from the collection of the National Museum of Australia, and to investigate what new narrative might appear if they are inserted into a different context, which might not be understood as a traditional museum or gallery space.
We are apart of a culture that does not have an appreciation for things around us, as we have a mindset that they will mostly be everlasting. However, we do realise that nothing in this world is more important than something that is about to disappear, no longer existing or be damaged beyond recognition.
Our proposal therefore aim to jeopardize the selected objects by placing them on multiple seesaw installations along the Australia coastline. This is to highlight their ephemerality as historical artefact, and shall eventually leave an open ending for the viewer to contemplate the uncertainties and the culture context of the feature objects.
